Barooga, located about 690 km south-west of Sydney in the Murray Region of New South Wales. It can be accessed via the
Riverina and Hume highways and lies on the opposite side of the river from Cobram in Victoria, and about 20 km upstream
from the major centre of Tocumwal. Like its twin-city of Cobram, Barooga lies in the heart of a rich dairy, fruit, cattle, pastoral and wine-growing district which s part of the Murray River irrigation area. Barooga is very popular as a holiday resort, with many local attractions including parks and many scenic spots dotted along the Murray River.The famous Botanical Gardens attracts many visitors as well as the large and challenging golf course. Barooga has retained its character as a friendly country town with many heritage buildings. The local community
has a strong interest in horse racing that is showcased at the Barooga Gold Cup held in November.
