Gunnedah is established in the centre of the Namoi Valley in the New England Region in Northern New South Wales. This rural service centre and tourism hub is located about 480 km north west of Sydney and just 75 km from Tamworth and on the Oxley and Kamilaroi Highways. The foremost rural enterprises are focused on beef, sheep and lamb, pork, cotton fabric, cereal and oil seed grain crops. Gunnedah is home to the world-famous farming equipment open day - AgQuip, which is the biggest showcase event for farming equipment in Australia. Gunnedah is also renowned as the `Koala Capital of the Australia` with large population koalas in the nature reserves and National Parks. Visitors can frequently see Koalas in the trees dotted along the bushwalking trails and also in the corridors of trees that line the town`s streets.
