Maryborough is situated in the heart of the Victorian Goldfields Region, about 160 km north-west of Melbourne and 75 km north of Ballarat provides extra venues for entertainment. Maryborough is a thriving town where modern building designs are combined with well restored and maintained of gold rush heritage buildings that are still in use today. The lovely heritage listed Maryborough Railway Station provides a perfect setting for a contemporary art gallery, an antique store, a local wood-craft gallery and a delightful cafe. The Central Goldfields Regional Art Gallery, with its fabulous range of exhibitions, featuring local and interstate artists is housed in the carefully restored fire station. You can try your luck at fossicking for gold in the historic goldfields. Bushwalkers love the trails through Paddys Ranges State Park. You can also go sailing, boating or fishing for trout in the several water reservoirs that are a feature of the district. You can discover the fascinating history of by visiting the Midlands Historical Museum that is located in the Worsley Cottage, dating from 1894. Maryborough is surrounded by and array of fascinating Gold Rush towns each of which have many stories to tell about their involvement in the Gold Rush days. These towns include Dunolly, Talbot, Carisbrook, Bealiba, Majorca, Moliagul and Timor.
