Austinmer is a stunning beach location and seaside holiday destination located north of Wollongong that lies underneath the dramatic cliffs of the escarpment beneath the Royal National Park. Austinmer Beach features attractive rock pools that are interesting to explore and excellent swimming conditions. The beach is also good for surfing and kayaks, and has a large grassy park area under the pine trees that is ideal for children and picnics. The beautiful beach is about 200 m in length and extends between two small headlands. There are with two natural sea pools on the southern rock platform beneath the headland. The beach is patrolled by lifesavers during summer from September to April and is very popular for jogging and fishing. There are excellent amenities with many cafes and restaurants
near by, a large carpark, kiosk, public toilet and change rooms, picnic amenities, BBQs and a variety of playground equipment. Inland there are dense forests covering the slopes and adding to the grandeur of the Illawarra Escarpment. The hinterland areas offer a wonderful range or bush walking paths and you can climb or drive to the cliff tops for spectacular views from Bulli Lookout, Sublime Point and other vantage points. There is a wide range places to stay on the waterfront in Austinmer, which has the excellent amenities to support many recreational activities and sports. Wollongong has a wide range of entertainment and amusement venues including pubs, taverns and clubs.
