Echunga is a thriving and interesting town situated about 35 km south-east of Adelaide in the Adelaide Hills Region, South Australia. Echunga started life in the 1840s and the town bloomed when gold was discovered in 1852, when Echunga became the first proclaimed goldfield in South Australia. The trail includes visits to the New Phoenix Tunnel, which is 80 m deep, and to other mining relics and various other old gold mining shafts.
