The small town of Exeter, located in the Southern Highlands Region of New South Wales has intriguing links to the English village of the same name. Exeter lies in the heart of a beautiful tourist area south of Wollongong and Sydney, and North-East of Canberra. Exeter has beautiful green hilly countryside dotted with many deciduous trees that were planted by the early farmers in the area to create a similar landscape to that of the township of Exeter in England. The lovely township of Exeter is surrounded by rich agricultural and grazing lands on rolling green hills. The houses in the town vary from colonial historic mansions, quaint weather board timber cottages to stylish modern houses. The Exeter area has a rich heritage and a remarkable history. There are several beautiful 100 year old stone churches to visit in the area and a number of heritage buildings that are still being used. Exeter is home to several Australia's most famous and well known horse studs and several unique boutique wineries with cellar door outlets. Exeter has post office, general store and a fascinating antique store that is certainly worth exploring. Horse riding, bushwalking and fine dining at the many restaurants and food outlet in the area are also very popular.
