What's on in Fairy Meadow


Fairy Meadow is a northern district of the regional centre of Wollongong on the Illawarra coast. It is very popular with tourists because it is close to beaches and the surf, the coastal bushland nature reserves and the cliffs and hills of the escarpment. Fairy Meadow Beach lies just to the north of the Wollongong Harbour complex, and is located beneath Flagstaff Hill Park and lighthouse. The beach at Fairy Meadow itself has good amenities for surfing, angling and bathing with a Surf Club, vehicle reserve and getting dressed sheds established behind the dunes. There is a large caravan reserve and allotments of vacation dwelling and luxury suites in the locality and large amenities for all kinds of recreational activities. The beach, headland and low rocks at each end of the beach are favourite angling spots.To the southeast of Fairy Meadow is Puckeys Estate Reserve, a wilderness rerserve renowned for bird watching and seaside natural habitat reserves that are open to the public for bushwalking. The locality is fringed by a long sandy beach which extends from to Wollongong in the south to Towradgi Point in the north, bissected by the rocks at the Fairy Lagoon entrance. To the east of Fairy Meadow township and north of Puckey's Reserve and is the lovely Fairy Meadow Beach. This wonderful beach is patrolled during the summer months and has a surf life saving club. West of Puckey's Reserve is Brandon Park greyhound racing track and the well renowned Wollongong Science Centre and Planetarium. The research centre is well-known for its exceptional laser concerts. The centre comprises of two levels and encompasses an observatory, a laser theatre, intriguing dinosaur and fossil displays, an intriguing electronics display, a plantation logging game, solar power displays and numerous other displays.
