Katoomba is the major administrative, tourist and residential centre for the history and much loved Blue Mountains Region in the heart of New South Wales. It lies about 45 km south-east of Lithgow, and 110 km west of Sydney and has an elevation of about 1000 m above sea level. Katoomba has been a much loved vacation, weekend getaway and daytrip destination for over a 100 years. Another well liked attraction is Scenic World which includes the Scenic Skyway cable car and the Katoomba Scenic Railway. The Skyway offers a cable car trip across a section of the Jamison Valley and has wonderful views of Katoomba Falls and Orphan Rock.
