The scenic and historic town of Manilla, which is a major tourist centre and rural service town is situated in the New England and North West Region in northern New South Wales. Manilla is situated at the junction of the Manilla and Namoi Rivers, about 450 km north of Sydney and 50 km north of Tamworth, which provides additional entertainment options for visitors. Manilla services a rich agricultural area focused on wheat-growing, sheep and wool, and fat lambs, beef and mixed farming. You can learn to fly at the famous Manilla Paragliding - Flying School. Their course covers all aspects of paragliding and they offer tandem flights for beginners. The flying school is located at one of the world`s safest and best flying sites - Mt Borah, which became famous when it hosted the 2007 Paragliding World Championships. Manilla also features an 80 km long Endurance Ride, held in July each year. The base camp for this event is the showgrounds. Manilla is very fortunate as it lies between two beautiful freshwater lakes - Split Rock Dam and Lake Keepit, which together provide a fabulous variety of water based recreational activities for locals and visitors. These activities include canoeing, kayaking, sailing, fishing and boating of all types. The Manilla Museum is well worth a visit as it has an interesting collection or displays and memorabilia that showcases the development of the Manilla community from when it started in 1830-1850, through the boom years of the pastoral era in early 20th Century and through to the present day.
