Marysville is a small town in the Yarra Valley Region about 35 km north-east of Healesville. It is located in the Shire of Murrindindi, between Alexandra and Healesville. Marysville's primary focus is on tourism and there are numerous cafes, craft shops, art galleries, restaurants and food outlets, many rebuilt after much of the town was destroyed by bush fires in 2009. Marysville is used as a base for the Lake Mountain ski resort. There are many wonderful tourist attractions and facilities supporting a host of activities throughout the area. The Steavenson Falls, which are floodlit until midnight each evening is one of the better ones. Marysville is located along the banks of the Steavenson River, about which much of the outdoor recreation is focused. Marysville is an ideal spot for mountain biking, bushwalking and scenic walks with many tracks through the surrounding forests providing enjoyable ways to experience the delights of the natural environment. Keppels Lookout, one of many in the area, offers spectacular views of the forests surrounding Marysville. The Lake Mountain cross-country ski resort is nearby as is the tourist village of Buxton, which has a trout and salmon farm.
