Mittagong is the gateway to the Southern Highlands Region in southern New South Wales. It is located close to Bowral, Moss Vale, Berrima and Yerrinbool in the picturesque rolling green hills between Mount Gibraltar and Mount Alexander. The beautiful Lake Alexandra located close to the town drains into the nearby Nattai River. Mittagong has many historic buildings and many fascinating antiques shops to visit and explore. There are more heritage sites in the small surronding villages of Welby, Balaclava, Braemar and Willow Vale. Mittagong is famous for its array of bushwalking tracks and scenic lookouts. There are also many cool climate wineries with cellar doors in the district. There is an excellent range of places to stay in the area including motels, hotels, apartments, bed and breakfasts, houses, caravan parks and fine country mansions. There is an excellent array of fine restaurants and cafes in and around Mittagong and in the surrounding towns. Some of the local attractions nearby and events include: Lake Alexander, Fitzroy Falls and Wombeyan Caves, a rainforest butterfly house and The Dahlia Festival in February. Mittagong is a great place to say when exploring the Southern Highlands as it is central to all the sites and attractions.
