The beautiful Mornington Peninsula town of Mount Martha is located on the shores of Port Phillip Bay between Safety Beach and Mornington about 50 km south of Melbourne, Victoria. Mount Martha is very popular holiday destination and tourist spot because of its small size, charm and its location in beautiful scenic coastline where the bushland, quite literally, plunges down to the sea. There are sheltered Bay side swimming beaches with wide expanses of sand dotted along the coast to the south and north of the town. The beaches are charmingly lined with rows of colourful bathing boxes - a relict from the past. Water based recreation such as boating, fishing swimming and diving are very popular. But the area is surrounded by National abd State parks and there are many scenic bushwalking tracks along the rocky cliffs above the beaches that offer many scenic lookouts. You can also take tracks inland away from the coast to explore these natural areas. The coastal road, linking Safety Beach and Mornington to Mount Martha follows the steep coastline and offers outstanding views of Port Phillip Bay. One of the most popular tourist attractions at Mount Martha is the historic `The Briars` Park, which includes a historic house dating back to mid-1800s, a visitors centre, nursery, vineyard, restaurant and a large wildlife reserve featuring bird observation hides and scenic pristine wetlands. The board-walks along Balcombe Creek offers visitors a chance to see a wide variety of bird life. Mount Martha Park also offers an interesting range of walking trails, native bushland and scenic views in the bushland surrounding the 160 m peak of Mount Martha.
