The thriving rural centre and holiday destination of Orange is located on the Mitchell Highway in the Central West Region of New South Wales. Nearby is the large waterbody of Carcoar Dam that is popular for windsurfing, canoeing, sailing, kayaking, boating, swimming and fishing. Follow the heritage trail to see the many historic buildings in Orange and in the surrounding district. Visitors can also discover the heritage of the Gold Rush era at the nearby Ophir goldfields, with are located about 30 km from Orange. Take a wine tour and enjoy wine tasting at one of the cellar door outlets, such as Belgravia, Dindima or Ibis wines. The Orange Wine Festival is held in October in each year.
