Scone is a regional service centre and holiday hub, located about 30 km north of Muswellbrook and 285 km north of Sydney in the Hunter Valley Region in Central New South Wales. Scone is well known as the 'The Horse Capital' of Australia because of the many outstanding horse studs in the area. Scone supports a rich area that features pastoral, agricultural, dairying, cattle grazing and horse breeding enterprises. The horse stud and cattle stud auctions attract buyers from all over Australia and the world. One of the major events in the area is the 10 day Scone Horse Festival held every year in May. This major event includes: a rodeo, street parades, stock sales, horse race meetings, a thrilling airshow, and lots of live entertainment. The Hunter Horse Expo attracts many visitors in September
and October.
