Tathra is a very popular vacation resort town located between Merimbula and Bermagui,on the Sapphire Coast about 18 km east of Bega on the Southern Coastline of New South Wales. This delightful beachfront township has restaurants, art galleries, shops, hotels, taverns, restaurants, motels, cafes, bowling and golf licensed clubs, and a wide range of wonderful beachfront accommodation. Tathra has a fabulous surfing beach that is patrolled during the school holidays and summer months. Mogareka Inlet, which is the mouth of the Bega River, lies to the north of the main beach and provides excellent boating, fishing and other recreational opportunities. The inlet has boat ramps as well as BBQ, picnic and parkland facilities. The inlet provides excellent fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming spots,
and a variety of beach and bushland walks. Just north of Tathra Beach is the famous Mimosa Rocks National Park, another wonderful recreational resource, which provides scenic coastal landscapes, camping and bushwalking and many delightful secluded beaches, tidal lagoons and spectacular scenery. Fishing from Tathra Wharf is very popular as well as scuba diving and or snorkelling in he inlet and other local spots. Tathra has excellent beachfront accommodation and a plethora of amenities and facilities supporting a variety of tourist and recreational things to do and see. Tathra has shops, art galleries, restaurants, a pub, a country golf club and licensed bowling clubs. These clubs welcome visitors and they have excellent dining rooms and offer live entertainment. Tathra Pub attracts major bands.
Nearby is Bournda National Park that offers isolated beaches, quiet coves, rugged cliffs and excellent scenery. There is a camping ground within the Park and many trails for hikers and bike riders to explore.
