The charming rural service town and holiday centre of Wellington is located in the Central West Region of New South Wales about 350 km north-west of Sydney. It is ideally positioned in the Wellington Valley in the heart of NSW, at the junction of the Macquarie and Bell Rivers and at the foot of Mount Arthur. Lake Burrendong, which is a huge lake more than three times the size of Sydney Harbour, is a wonderful resource for water-based recreation. It attracts a wide range of water sports activities from fishing boating and swimming, to sailing, water skiing, kayaking, canoeing, gold panning, golf. mountain bikes and bushwalking. The famous Wellington Caves feature two public caves: The Cathedral Cave and The Gaden Cave. There are several smaller caves as well including the challenging River Cave,
as well as the Water Cave, both of which are not open to the public and are open only to experienced cave divers. The complex also includes the Bottle House and the Phosphate Mine. Other attractions in the Wellington area include Oxley Museum, Osawano Japanese Gardens, Mount Arthur Reserve, and the historic tavern - The Lion of Waterloo. Wellington is a great place for a family holiday, a week-end getaway or a daytrip.
