Wingham is a lovely rural service centre and holiday town located on the upper reaches of the magnificent Manning River. It is located about 325 km north-east of Sydney and 13 km north-west of Taree. Wingham is perfectly positioned in the hinterland of Port Macquarie region on the Central New South Wales Coast and offers the best of both worlds - coast and country and all the range of facilities and attractions in these habitats. Wingham is renowned as a beautiful and charming traditional Australian country town which has retained its heritage character that is loved by tourist and visitors. The riverside position makes Wingham a very popular venue for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, boating, swimming, canoeing, sailing and waterskiing. The famous Wingham Brush Nature Reserve, located close to the centre of town is a very popular attraction. This reserve is a remnant of the rainforest that originally covered the surrounding area. It is the last 10 hectares of remaining temperate rainforest that once covered all the coastal hinterlands of northern New South Wales. You can see the Giant Moreton Bay figs that are one of the largest trees in the Brush. The reserve is home to a wide range of fauna with a large population of grey headed flying foxes, kangaroos, koalas, other native marsupials, a diverse range of birds and a huge variety of plants. At the Brush is a delightful recreation area that has parkland, picnic and BBQ facilities and other facilities.
