Wollongong is a major regional city that is the major activity, entertainment and amusement hub for the Illawarra Coast located about one hour south of Sydney, with the scenic backdrop of the steep escarpment. Wollongong has a large range of attractions and amenities for all types of recreation, entertainment, amusement and activities. As well as boating surfing and swimming, there is snorkelling, scuba diving and spearfishing, with many dive stores supplying equipment, air-fills and lessons. The serene waters of Lake Illawarra are perfect for kayaking, windsurfing, kite surfing, canoeing, cruising, swimming, boating, angling and waterskiing. The angling in the Wollongong locality is truly magnificent with very good amenities and a broad range of angling types and locations to select from - rock, lagoon, estuary, seashore, stream, sandy seashore, surf, estuary and offshore vessel fishing. Woolongong has a fabulous range of pubs, clubs and other entertainment options, and has a thriving arts and live entertainment communities and a very full calendar of annual events.
