This region extends from the regional centre of Port Macquarie and the inland service centre of Taree on the Manning River, and runs south to the recreational paradise of the including the Myall Lakes National Park and the Great Lakes area. The region excludes Port Stephens, Hawkes Nest and Tea Gardens and which are included in the Port Stephens Region. The Port Macquarie. Manning River and Great Lakes areas includes a beautiful and diverse coastline with a large variety of coastal headlands, estuaries, rivers, beaches, lakes and stunning coastal landscapes and scenery. The famous Great Lakes area includes Myall, Wallis and Smiths Lakes, which are interconnected to provide an extensive and unique aquatic playground or lakes and waterways, which is nearly five times the size of Sydney
Harbour. The also includes the very popular, traditional holiday destinations of Foster and Tuncurry that have attracted visitors for over 100 years.
